Note:
If you have never worked a lace type project before, it would be easier for you
if you used a very light colored yarn, (not a variegated one) and stitch
markers between each group of stitches, (between the k 1, p1, k1, the five open work stitches).

5 & 7 circular knitting needles

set Size 7 double pointed knitting needles
With
size 5 circular needles, cast on
104
for ex-large, 96 for large, 88 for med, 80 for small, join being careful not to
twist stitches.
Ribbing:
Rd
1: knit
Rd
2: k 1, p 1 around.
Repeat
rows 1 and 2 four times, for a total of 8 rounds.
Change
to size 7 circular needles
Rd
9: p 1, k 1, around
Rd
10: k 1, p1 around,
Rd
11: Repeat round 9.
Now
start round 1 of pattern
Row
1: * k1, p1, k1, (place
marker), k5, (place marker) *, repeat from
* to * around. Slip markers as you come to them.
Row
2 & 4 *p 1, k1, p1, * k5, repeat
from * to * around.
Row
3: * K 1, p1, k1,
(slip next stitch to right hand needle,) 2x, insert left hand needle into the
back loops of the two slipped stitches and move to the left needle, then k 2
tog, yo, k 1, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso*, repeat from * to * around.
Repeat
rows 1 to 4 for five pattern repeats,
and then do row 1 again,
Now.

1: p 1, k 1, around
Rd
2: k 1, p1 around,
Rd
3: Repeat round 1.
Finishing:
Rd
1: knit, placing markers after every 8th stitch.
Rd
2: Knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2 tog.
Repeat
rounds 1 and 2 until you have 1 stitch between markers.
Run
yarn needle through remaining stitches, draw up tight, through again. Weave in
ends.
