Multiples of 4
For sample Ch 20
( 4 x 5 = 20)





Foundation Row: Work 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch to end. Ch 1, turn.

Row 1: 1 sc in each of first 2 dc, * ch 2, skip 2 dc, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc; rep from *, ending 1 sc in last dc, 1 sc in top of turning ch. Ch 2, turn.

Row 2: Skip first sc, 1 dc in next sc, *2 dc under ch-2, 1 dc in each of next 2 sc; rep from * to end. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for desired length

Set up row: k 4, place marker, k to last 3 stitches, place marker, k 3




Row 1: k 3, slip marker (sm) * K 3 tog. (leave sts on left-hand needle) knit the first of 3 sts, k next 2 tog. tbl *. repeat from * across row, sm, k 4

Row 2: K 4, sm, purl across to last 3 stitches, sm, k 3.

Row 3: Knit 

Row 4:  knit  

Repeat rows 1 to 4 four times total. 

Knit 5 rows, remove markers on last row.

Michele's Granny Square

This pattern is from Mon Tricot Magazine, sometime in the early 70's.  it has gone out of business, which is really sad, it was a great magazine, printed in France.

Materials
G Hook
White, Blue, Red, and Brown yarn.
        
With White yarn chain 6 and join with a sl st to form a ring.
        


Round 1:  With white in ring work: ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3,* 4 dc, ch 3 * repeat from * to * (3 times). On this round and on every round join with a Sl st in the 3rd ch. Mark beg. of rounds. Fasten off white, attach Blue.
        
Round 2: With blue (on every round, replace the first dc by ch 3) * 2 dc in ch-3 space. 1 dc on each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next ch-3 space, 1 tr tr inserting hook from front to back in the first ring and between the groups of 4 dc * Repeat from * to * (4 times). Fasten off blue, attach Red.
        
Round 3: With Red * 2 dc in the first dc, 1 dc on each of the next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3 for corner * repeat from * to * (4 times). Fasten off Red, attach Brown.
        
Round 4: With brown * 2 dc in ch-3 space, 11 dc, 2 dc in 3 ch space, 1 tr tr inserting hook from right to left under the blue tr tr *. Break yarn and fasten off.

Pat's CD Hot Pad

Material: 4 ply worsted yarn or 100% cotton yarn
               Old CD-Rom disk

Size G Hook   (Model made with Susan Bates)

Gauge: Rnd 2 measures 3 inches

Make 2, either from the same color or a contrasting color

Chain 5, slip st in first ch to form ring

Rnd 1) chain 4, (counts as first dc) (*dc, ch 1) 11 more times. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch 4 {12 dc}

Rnd 2) sl st to first ch 1 sp, work beg cluster, ch 2; (*cluster, ch 2,) in each ch 1 sp around; join w/sl st to first st of beg cluster {12 clusters}

Rnd 3) ss to first ch 2 sp; ch 2, hdc twice in same sp, ch 2;  (*3 hdc, ch 2,) in each ch 1 sp around; join w/sl st to 2nd ch of beg ch 2 {12 hdc groups}

Rnd 4) sl st to 2nd st (middle) of hdc in prev row; ch 3; 4 dc in same st, ch 1; (*5 dc in 2nd st of hdc in prev row, ch 1) around; join w/sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch 3 {12 dc groups}

Rnd 5) sl st to 3rd st of dc in prev row, ch 1, sc in same st, (*ch 3; sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 3,sc in 3rd st of dc in prev row) around;  join w/sl st to first sc {24 ch 3 spaces}

Fasten off  yarn on first hot pad, weave in ends. Make a second hot pad using the same color or a contrasting color. Do not cut yarn.

At end of Rnd 5, hold two pieces with RIGHT sides facing out (wrong sides together). sc through each ch 3 sp of BOTH pads, sewing them together; ch 3, sc in same ch 3 sp; (*sc in next ch 3 sp, ch 3, sc in same ch 3 sp) around. When approx 3/4 completed, slip CD into pad and continue closing w/sc. {24 ch 3 spaces} Fasten off and weave in ends.

Beg Cluster:

Ch 2; *YO, insert hook in same sp, YO and pull up a loop; YO and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * once more, (there will be 3 loops on hook) YO and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Cluster:

*YO, insert hook in sp, YO and pull up a loop; YO and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * 2 times more, (there will be 4 loops on hook) YO and draw through all 4
loops on hook.

For this I used five stitches knit group, purl group, then another 5 knit, but changed the blocks every 6th row.

Row 5: p 5, k 5, p 5
Row 6: k 5, p 5, k 5
Row 7: p 5, k 5, p 5
Row 8: k 5, p 5, k 5
Row 9: p 5, k 5, p 5
Row 10: k 5, p 5, k 5
Row 11: p 5, k 5, p 5
Row 12: k 5, p 5, k 5

Repeat rows 1 to 12 for pattern for desired length

Row 3: k 3, pm, * drop the "made" st of the previous  row, wl.fwd to m 1, sl 1, k 3, psso *. repeat from * across row to last 3 stitches , sm, k 3

Row 4: k 3, sm, purl to last 3 stitches, sm, k 3.

Repeat rows 1 to 4 3x more, then knit 6 rows even, removing markers on last row.
