1 ball Peaches & Crème Cotton Yarn Sunburst #11

1 ball Peaches & Crème Cotton Yarn Sun flower # 196.

G Hook.

Use Crochet Hook, Size G or size required to obtain gauge

Chain 25.

Row 1: 1 hdc in 2^nd chain from hook and in each chain across row. Turn.

Row 2: ch 2, in loop below back loop, work 1hdc in same place, and each hdc across row. Turn.

Row 3: ch 1, 1 sc in same place, and in each hdc across row. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st, work a bead st as follows;–holding the loop on hook, insert hook in next st, yo and draw up a loop, ch 3 in this loop only for bead, yo and through the 2 loops on hook to complete bead, keep bead on right side of work, 1 sc in next st, * 1 bead st in next st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * to end. Turn.

Row 5: ch 2, 1 hdc in each st across row. Turn.

Repeat rows 2 to 5 until you have 6 rows of row #4. Fastening off after row 4.

Repeat for back of potholder.

Edging:

Round 1: with wrong sides facing, sc in first corner, matching up row 4, sc down side evenly, place 3 sc in corner, sc across bottom, place 3 sc in next corner, work down side as before, join with slip stitch to first sc.

Round 2: * ch 4, 1 dc in same place, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around, at corners,  skip only 1 sc. Join to beginning sc. Fasten off. Weave in the ends of yarn.

Chain 25.

Row 1: wrong side–Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, and 1 dc in each chain across row.

(Note–To work dc around post of dc from front, yo, insert hook from front to back in space before dc, then from back to front on other side of same dc, yo and draw up a loop, yo and through 2 loops, yo and through 2 loops–top of st is left free. To work dc around post of dc from back, yo, insert hook from back to front in space before dc, then from front to back on other side of same dc and work a dc–top of st is left free. )

Row 2: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, 1 dc around post of each of next 3 dc from front, * 1 dc around post of each of next 3 dc from back, 1 dc around post of each of next 3 dc from front; repeat from * across row. 1 dc in top of turning ch.

Repeat row 2  15 times, fasten off. Make 2.

Edging

Round 1: holding wrongs sides facing, attach yarn at any corner, ch 1, single crochet evenly around potholder, placing 2 sc in each corner, join with slip stitch.

Round 2: ch 8, sc in same place, and in each sc around potholder, placing 2 sc in each corner.

Fans and Pansies Ripple Blanket

This is an original design but is reminiscent of what might have been made a century or two ago. It works well in a solid color or multiple colors.

The example is made in light worsted weight mechanized cotton.

Size: This blanket can be made any size. Five widths are given in the directions.

Materials: Worsted weight yarn Size H (5mm) crochet hook

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
ch sp = chain space
dc = double crochet
sc = single crochet

Special stitches:
dc2tog – double crochet 2 stitches together (uses two stitches, decreases by one stitch) – [Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops] 2 times (3 loops on hook), yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.
dc5tog – double crochet 5 stitches together (uses five stitches, decreases by four stitches) – [Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops] 5 times (6 loops on hook), yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.

The beginning chain should be a multiple of 52 plus 2.

For these widths, start with this number of chains:
31? = 158
41.25? = 210
51.5? = 262
61.5? = 314
71.75? = 366

After the first row, make all stitches in both loops.

The blanket can be made in a solid color or can be made with any number of color changes. The best way to make a color change is to finish all but the very last pull through of the two loops of the last stitch of a row. Cut yarn with a few inches of tail and join with new color next to stitch. Pull new color through last two loops. Weave in ends.

 

Great Grandson

 My great-grandson is a sweet little guy, and I wanted to  brighten up his Christmas will something that he could keep out and hang in his room if he wanted to.

The  little tree that is made with odd and ends of felt, buttons, ribbon and trims, and other cut out Christmas fabric  I had left over from other projects and clothing.

I used buttons and cookie cutters for the ornaments, etc. The back ground material is a piece I had left over from a Christmas tablecloth, and the backing and binding is all from one piece of a cherry red fabric.

The tree trunk is from brown felt and the tree it's self is also from green felt. The planter is just some red material with trim sewn on it.  I had fun making it, and the other one that matches it, too.

Row 1 (RS):  P 2, *YO, k 1, yo, p 2; rep from * across.

Row 2: K 2, * p 3, k 2: rep from * across.

Row 3:  P 2, * k 3, p 2; rep from * across.

Row 4:  K 2, , *  p3 tog, k 2; rep from * across.

 

Rep Rows 1-4 for Tunnel Lace Pattern or until desired length.

(You can use plain cotton yarn (hook F or G) and thread (hook 7)

With Red, ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd st from hook, do no join this or any of the following rounds, mark each row.

Rd 2 2 sc in each sc.

Rd 3 working in sc increase in every other st (24sc)

Rd 4 increase in every 3rd sc.

Rd 5 increase in every 4th sc.

Rd 6 work even.

Rd 7 increase in every 4th sc, (you may need to work a row or two even here)

Next 2 rows   increase in every 5th sc.

Next row  work even, sl st in next st to even row.  (again you may need to work one more row here, so work will lay flat)

Edge: *ch 2, hdc in same sp, skip 1sc, sl st in next sc, repeat from * around, join, fasten off.

Daisy: with yellow thread  and 7 hook, ch 2, 8sc in 2nd st from hook, join, fasten off. Attach white in any sc, *ch 6, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1hdc in next st of ch, 1 dc in each of the next 3sts of ch, sl st in next sc, repeat from * 7 x, fasten off.  Work 11 more daisies.

Leaf: with green, * ch 13, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 hdc in next st of ch, 1 dc in each of the next 8 sts of ch, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in next st, repeat from * twice, fasten off.

Work 2 more groups of leaves. With potholder laying flat on table, place 3 daisies at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, with a leaf grouping between the daisies.

MATERIALS:

Small amount of white 4 ply yarn

7 oz. (4 ply) Ombre yarn –color of your choice. (I used ombre Sayelle, Yellow/Green).

Small scrap of red and black 4 ply yarn to embroider facial features.

Heart Bead for nose (or embroider with red yarn).

2 Jingle Bells (or pom pons).

Stuffing

Size G Crochet Hook

GAUGE: 4 sc = 1”

HEAD: (Make 2 pieces)

FRONT: With White yarn ch 2, 6 sc in 2^nd ch from hook. (Do not  join rnds, but mark beg of each rnd).

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.

Rnd 3:  *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc* around – 18 sc.

Rnd 4:  *Sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc * around – 24 sc.

Rnd 5: *Sc in 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc* around – 30 sc.

Rnd 6: *Sc in 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc* around – 36 sc.

Rnd 7: *Sc in 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc* around – 42 sc.

Rnd 8: *Sc in 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc* around – 48 sc. Sl st in first st of next rnd. Fasten off yarn, leaving length for sewing.

BACK: With ombre yarn make another piece the same for back of head. Sew 2 pieces together (right sides out) stuffing head firmly before closing.

FRONT PART OF HOOD: Ch 20, sc in 2^nd ch from hook and in each  ch across, turn (do not ch 1 before turning).

ROW 2: Sl st in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, sl st in last  sc. (19) Turn.

ROW 3: Sl st in first sc, sc across, dec 2 sts evenly spaced, sl st in last st, turn. (17 sts).

ROW 4: Sl st in 1^st st. Sc even across, dec 2 sts evenly spaced, sl st in last st, turn. (15 sts).

ROW 5: Sl st in 1^st st, sc even across, dec 2 sts evenly spaced, sl st in last st. (13 sts).

End off, leaving length of yarn for sewing. Sew to top of head at top seam. Do not sew smaller front edge down.

HAT TIPS: (Make 2) With ombre Ch 16, join with sl st to form a ring. Ch 1, sc in each ch around.

(Do not join rnds, but mark beg of each rnd). Work even on 16 sc for 12 rnds.

NEXT RND: Dec 2 sc evenly spaced around – 14 sc.Work even on 14 sc for 3 rnds.

NEXT RND: Dec 2 evenly spaced around – 12 sc.Work even on 12 sc for 3 rnds.

NEXT RND: Dec 2 sc evenly spaced around –10 sc.Work even for 1 rnd.

NEXT RND: Dec 2 evenly spaced around –8 sc.

NEXT RND: Dec 2 evenly spaced around – 6 sc. Sl st top closed and end off. Do not stuff these pieces. Sl st bottom together and sew to top of head. Attach 1 jingle bell to each tip. (Use pom pons if for a small child or baby.)

BODY: Ch 15, sc in 2^nd ch from hook and in each ch across, working on opposite side of ch, sc across. (Do not join rnds but mark end of each rnd). Continue 1 sc in each sc around until body measures 6” tall

(28 sts). Sl st in next st, Fasten off yarn leaving a length for sewing.  Stuff body. Sew top of body closed, then sew on head.  (You may have to take extra sts on each side front and back to help anchor the head).

ARMS: (Make 2) With white, ch 2, 6 sc in 2^nd ch from hook. (Do not join rnds, mark beg of each rnd).

RND 2: 2 sc in each sc around. 12- sc.

RND 3: * Sc in 1^st sc, 2 sc in next sc * around 18 – sc.

RND 4: Work 1 rnd even. End off white, attach ombre. Work even on 18 sc with ombre yarn until arm measures 13” in length. Stuffing very lightly as you work. At end of last rnd, sl st in 1^st st on next rnd, Fasten off yarn leaving length for sewing. Sew ends together and  then sew to side of body at top.

LEGS: (Make 2) With ombre ch 2, 6 sc in 2^nd ch from hook.  (Do not join rnds, mark beg of each rnd).

RND 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.

RND 3: * 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc * around. – 18 sc. Work even on 18 sc until leg measures 14” long.  Stuffing very lightly as you work. (Arms and legs should  be able to tie around crib bars).

At end of last rnd, sl st in 1^st sc of next rnd. Fasten off yarn leaving length for sewing. Sew end of leg together and then sew legs side by side to bottom of body. 

FACIAL FEATURES:  Sew heart bead in center of face for nose. (If for small child, embroider nose in red). Embroider red mouth and blue eyes.
