October 2011 Stitch of the month Crochet

This is a fast and simple stitch and would make a great mile a minute stitch, just do 11 stitches.

Ch: multiple of 7 + 4

For sample ch 18 (2 x7 + 4 = 18)

Row 1: Dc in 4th in from hook, *skip 2 chains, 3 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch, 2 DC  in each of next  2 ch, repeat from * across row. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in first dc, *skip 1 dc, 1dc in next 2 dc (2 dc group), skip 1 dc, 3 dc in sp between next 2 dc group, repeat from * across row. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, 1 dc in next dc, *skip 1 dc, 3 dc between next 2 dc, skip 1 dc, 2 dc in next 2dc, repeat from * across row, end 2 dc in top of turning chain, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for pattern until square.

This is an open and airy stitch, you can also use it for coasters, with a backing or just another afghan square, just remember to crochet an edging around it.

July 2011 Pattern of the Month Knit

Knit New Born Baby Bonnet @1977 by N Banks

This is a hat I made several of when my daughter was a baby, I couldn't find patterns in 4 ply, which sold for about 57 cents a skein. My daughter is now 36 years old. Enjoy!!!

Materials:
4 ply yarn     #4 needles
about 20 inches of ½ wide ribbon.

Cast on 72 stitches

K2 P2 for 1 inch

K 1 row, P 1 row for 1 inch

Decrease as follows:

Row 1: K1, k 2 tog, K 20, K 2 tog, place marker, K 22, place marker, K 2 tog, K to last 3 stitches, K 2 tog, k1.

Row 2:  and all even rows, Purl.

Row 3: continue decreasing and passing markers until piece is 3 ½ inches from beginning. Then:

Do not decrease on the ends of needles, continue with decrease at the markers until piece is 4 inches from beginning, ending with a knit row.

P row: bind off the stitches to the first marker, pass marker, p to end.

R row: bind off the stitches to marker,  continue on center 22 stitches till back is same length as sides. Bind off, sew side seams together.

With wrong side facing you, pick up and p 62 stitches long bottom of hat

Next row: K 2, yo, k 2 tog, across row.

Next row: Purl, then bind off all stitches. Weave the ribbon between the eyelets of the last row.
