Machine Knit Candy Cane Ornament


Machine Knit Candy Cane Ornament

This is a knitting machine pattern, fast and fun to make.

Sample was knit on an SK700

Materials needed:
  Tamm 3 ply Astracryl in white, red  
  Green ½ wide ribbon, about ½ yard
  Shape pointed yarn needle
  Pipe Cleaner

Ten 6, RC 0: With Red, leaving a long tail, e-wrap 4 stitches in center of machine, (2-0-2) knit 132 rows. Bind off around gate posts, put aside.

Ten 6, RC 0: with white, leaving a long tail, e-wrap 4 stitches in center of machine, (2-0-2) knit 132 rows. Bind off around gate posts, put aside.

Holding the two strands together, twist (or wrap) them around the pipe cleaner, sew in place with the long tails of yarn at top and bottom of cane.

Bend into candy cane shape and tie with green ribbon, tie a bow in center of cane.

Materials:

3.5oz pink,  small amount black. (I used Red Heart Sport weight)

Crochet hook size H

This pattern is made from the top down, and fits a 25 oz dish detergent bottle. For a smaller bottle simply decrease number of rows.

 

Head: With pink, ch 20, sl st to beg ch.

Row 1: ch 2 *dc in next 5 ch, 2 dc in next ch* Repeat from * to * 3 x's ending dc in next 2 ch, sl st to ch 2.

Row 2: ch 2 * dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc* repeat form * to * 6 x's sl st to ch 2.

Row 3 – 5: ch 2 dc in ea dc around, sl st to ch 2.

Row 6: ch 2*dc in next 5 dc, dc dec* repeat from * to * 4 x's ending dc in next 3 dc, sl st to ch 2.

Torso and body:

Row 7: ch 2 *dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, * repeat from * to * 4 x's ending dc in next 3 dc, sl st to ch 2.

Row 8-9: repeat row 3

Row 10: repeat row 5

Row 11: repeat row 6

Row 12-17: repeat row 3

Row 18: ch 1, sc in ea dc around, sl st to ch1 finish off.

Nose: Ch 4; join with a sl st to form ring

Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 11 more dc in the ring, sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (12 dc)

Round 2: ch 3, bpdc on ea dc  of ea dc around, sl st to ch 3

Round 3: ch 3, dc in ea dc around, sl st to ch 3. finish off, leaving end long enough to sew in place. With black stitch mouth and nostrils in place. Stitch to front between rows 4-5. 

( I FOUND IT EASIER TO STUFF IT FIRST A LITTLE BIT.)

Eyes: (make 2)

With black, Ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to first sc finish off, leaving 1 inch tail at both ends. Using tails tie to post of dc on 2nd row of head.

Ears: (make 2)

 Ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in ea ch across, *ch 1 turn, 2 sc in 1st sc, sc in ea sc across, 2 sc on last sc, *ch 1 turn, sc in ea sc across , sc dec at,  end,* rep from * to * until one sc on hook. Finish off and tie in place on top of head.

Arms:

With pink, ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across. Finish off. Twist a few times and stitch ends to side of torso. (optional)Tail:. Sc around pipe cleaner from end to end, ch 1 turn, sc in ea sc, Twist to create curl. Sew to back of pig.
