September 2014 Pattern of the Month Knit

Men's Striped Ski Hat # 1

Materials:
1 set each size 5 and 7 circular knitting needles.
1 set size 7 double pointed knitting needles
1 row counter ("stitch marker to mark beginning of row".)
Yarn:
Worsted weight 1 skein each ( about 3 oz each )
Creme, light brown, variegated brown, pale yellow

With brown or blue, cast on 104.

Rds 1 to 3 Knit 2, Purl 2,. after rd 3, drop brown, attach yellow.

Rds 4 to 6 with yellow, K 2, P 2, after rd 6, drop yellow.

Rds 7 to 9 with brown, K 2, P 2, change to larger needles after rd 9, and drop brown.

Rd 10 to 13, knit, drop yellow, fasten off yellow, and start chart. Attaching and fastening off colors as needed.

 B = Brown  C = Creme   PY = Pale Yellow  VB  = variegated brown  or
for second hat

B = Blue      C = Pink      PY =  Pale Yellow  VB = variegated blue
or colors of your choice.

Notes: Decease by knitting 2 tog on row 23 every 13 stitch,  On rd 24, decease dec 1 stitch every 12 stitch, then with rd 25 every 11 stitch, keep deceasing like this every round until you have about 8 to 10 stitches left, (leave a long tail and using a yarn needle, run through remaining stitches to fasten off.)

Rds 32 to finish knit with brown.

Multiples of 4 + 1

Cast on 21 ( 4 x 5 = 20 + 1 = 21)

Row 1: * k1, p 3, repeat from * across row, end with k1.

Row 2: p 1, *k1, p1, repeat from * across row, ( right side row)

Repeat row 1 and 2 until desired length, bind off.

Camille's Picot Scrunchie

Materials: Small amount of your favorite yarn (I used America's Best 100% Cabled Cotton sz. 5    3 plied in Color #175-Fiesta) Elastic band (I used the skinny kind about 1 ½ inches in diameter, but any will do)

“I” hook or your preferred size (I crochet tightly so like the bigger hook) Yarn needle to weave in ends.


Directions:

Rd 1: Attach yarn to elastic band with a sl st. Sc around until it is full and you can't see the elastic band any more. Join to first sc with a sl st.

Rd 2: Ch 3. In back loops only, dc in each sc around.

Rd 3: Ch 1. Sc in same st. *Make picot (ch3, sl st in 1st chain), sc in next dc.* Repeat from * to * until last st. Sc in last dc, make picot. Join to first sc with a sl st. Finish off.

Rd 4: Attach yarn with a sl st in front loop of any sc in R1. Ch 3. Working in open loops of R1, dc in each sc around. Join to both loops in top of beg ch3 with a sl st.

Rd 5: Ch 1. Sc in same st. *Picot, sc in next dc.* Repeat from * to * until last st. Sc in last dc, make picot.
