August 2016 Crochet Stitch of the Month



For sample chain 22.

3 dc cluster stitch:
(yo, draw up a loop in stitch, yo, and draw through 2 loops ) 3 times, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Row 1: Starting in 2 nd ch from hook, work 1 sc in each ch across, ch 4, turn.

Row 2: Skip 2 sc, one 3-dc cluster in next sc, ch 1, * skip 1 sc, 3-dc cluster & ch 1 in next sc, repeat from * across, end skip 1 sc, 1 dc in last sc, ch 1, turn.

Row 3: 1 sc in dc, 1 sc in each ch-1 sp and in top of each cluster across, end 1 sc in last sp and 1 sc in turning-chi ch 4, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 for pattern. End repeats with row 3.

The blanket can be made on any double knitting board including  home made ones. The sample was made on a 78 peg loom using Red Heart With Love worsted weight yarn and is about 36 inches wide and 54 inches long.  You can use either worsted or bulky weight yarn in six different colors (about 37 oz). Lots of notes, how to’s, charts and color photos to help you made this simple afghan with easy to follow directions. If you are just learning to use a knitting board, this pattern is just for you.

Another one for the Hat Charity in Maine, hope you like it.

Materials:
main:  yellow

Secondary colors
Purple, Brown an d Blue in worsted weight yarns. I use Red Heart.

Size 5 & 7 circular knitting needles, size 7 double pointed needle

1 row counter, and 10 stitch markers

With yellow and size 5 needles, cast on 100.
Rds 1 to 7: Knit 2, Purl 2 around.  

Change to size 7 needle, start row 1 of chart, working from right to left. Be sure and twist yarns at the beginning of each round, fasten off colors when needed.

After working chart, complete hat as follows:

Top or crown of hat:
Rd 28 & 29: fasten off the blue and purple, with yellow knit.
Rd 30:  purl  and place markers after every 10th stitch,
Rd 31:  Knit to 2 stitches before marker, knit 2 tog.
Rd 32:  knit  
Repeat rounds 31 and 32 until you have 10 stitches left, change to double pointed needles when needed.  Cut yarn leaving a long tail, run yarn through remaining stitches and pull up tight, work ends of yarn in.
