I am knitting hats for a charity in Maine, and this is one
of the simple patterns I am making. It’s colorful and will warm in those cold
Maine winters.
Materials:
1 main color and 5 others, in worsted weight yarn, I used
purple as my main, red, cream, gold, navy, and brown as the 2 colors.
Size 5 & 7 circular knitting needles
1 row counter
10 stitch markers
Size 7 double pointed knitting needles
With main and using size 5 circular knitting needles, cast
on 100
Rds 1 to 7: Knit
2, Purl 2
Next rounds:
Change to size 7 needles and knit as follows:
3 rounds with color number 2 (red)
3 rounds with Main
3 rounds with color number 3 (cream)
3 rounds with main
3 rounds with color number 4 (gold)
3 rounds with main
3 rounds with color number 5 (navy)
3 rounds with main
3 rounds with color number six (brown)
3 rounds with main
Top or crown of hat
Rd 1, with rd, knit and place markers after every 10th
stitch,
Rd 2: purl, slip markers as you come to them.
Rd 3: and rest of top, knit to 2 stitches before marker,
knit 2 tog.
Repeat round 3 until you have 10 stitches left, change to
size 7 double pointed needles needed. Cut yarn leaving a long tail, run yarn
though remaining stitches and pull up tight, work ends of yarn in.
