How to make Plastic Bag holders.

How to make Plastic Bag holders  By N.L. Bank
This makes a fun and easy to do christmas gift.

What do you do with all the plastic bags you collect from the stores??  Toss them out, put trash in them, use them to line waste baskets like everyone else But where do you store them, like a lot of people you may use one bag and stuff all the others into it, then hang it in a closet. I have something for you. A Plastic bag holder.

You will need:
1 8 inch piece of elastic either ½ or ¼ wide
2 pieces of a matching material (a), flowers etc 6 inches by 14 inches
2 pieces of solid material (b) 6 inches by 14 inches.
1 piece of white or cream material (c) 5 inches by 14 inches
1 piece of iron on stabilizer 5 inches by 14 inches.
1 strip of material 3 inches by 12 to match a.

You will also need sewing thread to match a, a design to match your kitchen.
I used the cup and saucers set digitized by Laura at http://www.designsbysick.com/details/cupsandsaucers.

1.     Iron stabilizer to white or cream material, set aside.

          2.     Sew A to B, B to C, C to B, B to A.  See to left.

3. Do a stitch out of your chosen design first. Mark the center of the   fabric to center your design. Then lay your design sample on the white  or cream fabric (c), make sure the tablecloth part covers the solid fabric,  move your design by using your controls on your machine so that the table cloth part of the design hangs over the solid material. remove your sample, and stitch out the design.

   4.    With your machine's lettering, center Plastic Bags above the design you have stitched out. If you have a 4x4 like I do, you will have to un-hoop  your fabric, re-center and then stitch the letting in place. See sample.
  5.  Hem ends of plastic bag holder by folding up bottom of bag ¼ inch, sew in place, now fold up 1 inch and sew in place to make casing. Run the 8 inch piece
of elastic thru and tac at each end.
   6.  Hem the top by folding the top down ¼ inch, sew in place and fold down again, sew.
    7. Sew back seam.

    8.  Sew hanger by laying the strip of 3 x 12 material flat, fold long eds to middle, iron, fold again,
then sew. Fould up ends, sew in place.

   9.     Center handle at top to each side so that the design lays in middle, and sew in place. And you are done.
