Shades of Autumn Large Coaster or Small Hot Mat@2011 by N.L.Banks

 Notes:
1. I do not use a ¼ inch pressure foot; I use the right side of my sewing foot.

2. Seam allow ¼ inch.

Materials: 5 colors

      1.    4 cuts 4 ½ inch squares of a center design

      2.    8 cuts   2 inch wide x 4 ½ solid to match 1 above (I used orange)

      3.    8 cuts   2 inch wide x 7 ½ solid to match 2 above (I used orange)

      4.    8 cuts 1 inch wide x 7 ½ non solid to match 1 above ( I used a multi-colored  )

      5.    8 cuts 1 inch wide x 8 ½ non solid to match 4 above ( I used a multi-colored  )

      6.    8 cuts 1 ½ wide x 7 ½  solid ( I used a gold)

      7.    8 cuts 1 ½ wide x 8 ½ solid ( I used gold)

      8.    4 cuts 9 inches square for backing

      9.    4 cuts 9 inches square for lining

     10.   About 5 yards binding 2 inch wide. (I make my own; do not cut on bias by cutting 2 inch strips out of a yard of material. Then sew them end to end, and then iron up one side about ¼ inch, then do the other side.

# 2 and 3
Sew # 2 to top and bottom of #1 square. Iron seams flat.

Sew #3 to side of square 1. Iron seams flat.

Sew #4 to top and bottom of square. Iron seams flat.

# 4

Sew # 5 to sides of square, Iron
 seams flat.

Sew # 6 to top and bottom of square. Iron seams flat.

Sew # 7 to sides of square. Iron seams flat.

Sandwich lining between top and backing, pin in place.

Pick a stitch you like, sew around square #1, down the seam line.

Sew around square between # 3 and 4, down the seam line.

Starting mid way down one side, attach binding. I used the leaf stitch, so you would center this so that is comes just a bit of the right side so that both sides of the stitching will hold the binding down.
