October 2020 Stitch of the Month

October 2020 Stitch of the Month

The Ridge (rib) Stitch.

This stitch is used mostly for Afghans, but you can also use it for potholders, hot mats, and using thread, even doilies.  You can use any type of yarn, for example, if  you wanted to make a baby Afghan, just use baby or sport weight yarn. You can make it all one color, or several colors.

This is worked on any number of stitches, just measure the area you want an afghan for, and chain that length.

So for this sample, chain 25.

 Starting row:

Sk 1 ch, Sc in each Sc across. Ch 1, turn.

All rows:  Working in back loops ONLY, sc in each sc across row. Ch 1, turn.

You can change colors at the end of each row, and leave a long tail, then after several rows, tie or knot two or three tails together. Or using the same color, do three rows, and  tie these together. (If you are making this for a baby, I  wouldn't leave a tail at the end, baby fingers could get tangled up in them.)
