January 2010 Pattern & Stitch of the Month Knit

January 2010 Pattern & Stitch of the Month Knit.

This time it's a stitch and a pattern. If you knit it with a variegated yarn, it shows up really good. The dishcloth pattern is below the stitch pattern, enjoy!

Materials:

Size 8 knitting needles

1 ball Peaches & Crème Cotton yard, any color

2 stitch markers for borders

Multiples of 5

Row 1: * P 2, k 1, slip 1 purlwise, k 1 *.

Row 2: * P 3, k 2 *.

For sample:   cast on 20 stitches.

Repeats row 1 and 2 until square.

For Pattern: Dishcloth cast on 31 stitches

Rows 1 – 3: K1, P1, K1 (seeding)

Following rows : work rows 1 & 2 of stitch sample, keeping the first and last 3 stitches in seeding, work until square. Then repeat the seeding 3 rows, fasten off, weave in the ends.

Note: Using bulky weight yarn and large needles, this stitch would make a nice afghan.
