Santa Claus Coasters


Santa Claus Coasters @2011 N. L. Banks
                               
Notes:
1. I do not use a ¼ inch pressure foot; I use the right
side of my sewing foot.
 
2. Seam allow ¼ inch.
 
3. Makes a large mug or mat about 8 inches square.
 
   
Materials:

1:    9 ½ inch square for backing, cut 4
2:    9 ½ inch square for batting,  cut 4
3:    4 ½ inch center square          cut 4   (I used the Santa Claus)
4:    2 inch x 4 ½ inch strips         cut 8   ( I used green)
5:    2 inch x 7  inch strips            cut 8   ( I used green)
6:    2 inch x 7 inch strips             cut 8   ( I used the red floral)
7:    2 inch x 9 ¾ inch strips         cut 8   ( I used the red floral)
8:    5 yards 2 inch wide binding.

Sew #4 to center cut square at top and bottom. Iron seams flat. See Photo 1

 

Sew #5 to sides of center cut square. Iron seams flat.   See photo 2

Sew #6 to top of bottom of square. Iron seams flat. See Photo 3

Sew #7 to sides of square. Iron seams flat. See photo 4.


 
Sandwich batting between top and backing, matching edges, pin in place.

Sew top stitching on seams between 3 and 4.   See Photo 5
 

Sew top stitching on seams between 5 and 6.

 

 
 
 
Attach binding to edges.
